Introduction (#1 Introduction)
Welcome back to Chop's Garage! Today, we have a variety of projects to cover. From repairing dents to blending silver paint, we've got it all. While we don't have a specific car to focus on today, we'll be discussing the challenges and accomplishments of different repairs. So, let's dive right in!
The Silver Fit (#2 The Silver Fit)
One of the cars we've been working on is a silver Fit that had a dealer badge on it. Although the car is in great condition, removing the badge left behind some paint damage. To fix this, we've started the process of localized repair using silver paint. However, blending silver paint has always been a challenge for us, and we're still figuring out the best technique. Despite the difficulties, we remain determined to achieve a seamless finish on the Fit.
Challenges of Blending Silver (#3 Challenges of Blending Silver)
Blending silver paint can be quite challenging, even for professionals. Many techniques have been suggested, such as blending backwards or using a dusting approach, but we have yet to find one that works perfectly for us. The nature of silver paint makes it difficult to achieve a seamless transition between the repaired area and the rest of the car's body. However, we won't give up and will continue to experiment until we find our ideal method of blending silver paint.
The Fiat 500 Dent Repair (#4 The Fiat 500 Dent Repair)
Another project we're tackling is a dent repair on a Fiat 500. We left the car overnight with all the doors open to let the moisture escape. Luckily, we have the correct paint for this car, and the dent itself is shallower than it appears. This should make the repair relatively straightforward, especially since white is one of the easiest colors to blend. We're confident that with a little effort, the Fiat 500 will look as good as new.
Painting in White (#5 Painting in White)
When it comes to painting cars, white is often recommended as an ideal color for beginners. Its forgiving nature makes it easier to achieve a seamless finish, especially for blending repairs. If you're just starting out in the world of car painting, consider working with white. It will not only enhance your skills but also make the entire process more manageable.
Repairing the Voxel (#6 Repairing the Voxel)
One of the projects that has been sitting around for quite some time is a 2017 Voxel Viva. All it needs is a repair on the bumper. By using a heat gun, we were able to push the damaged area back into place. Although it's almost flush again, there's still some work left to do. We'll be melting the cracks together using a soldering iron and then filling in the remaining gaps. However, as with the other silver repairs, we anticipate some challenges due to the color.
The Challenge of Blending Silver Again (#7 The Challenge of Blending Silver Again)
As we mentioned earlier, blending silver paint is always a challenge for us. The repair on the Voxel Viva is no exception. We're determined to achieve a seamless finish, but it requires a lot of patience and trial and error. Blending silver in a way that matches the surrounding paint is no easy feat. However, we're up for the challenge and will continue to work towards a satisfactory result.
The Moldy Fiesta (#8 The Moldy Fiesta)
We recently acquired a Fiesta that unfortunately has developed some mold inside. We're not sure why it became so moldy during its time sitting idle. While we initially considered swapping the seat from another Fiesta we have, we quickly realized it wouldn't solve the issue of having a seatless car. Therefore, we've decided to sell the Fiesta as is, disclosing the known faults and giving potential buyers the opportunity to fix it themselves.
Progress on the Hyundai i10 (#9 Progress on the Hyundai i10)
In our last video, we mentioned that the Hyundai i10 had an engine management light issue. After driving it for a longer distance, the light disappeared, and the car now runs smoothly. We suspect that short trips and infrequent use caused some issues with the oxygen sensor. It's always a good practice to drive these smaller cars more regularly to avoid such problems. With the engine management light no longer an issue, we can focus on repairing the rear arch.
The Search for a Seat (#10 The Search for a Seat)
Some viewers suggested swapping the seat from a Fiesta we already have to replace the moldy seat in the other Fiesta. While this was a valid option, it would leave us with another car without a seat. Therefore, we decided it wouldn't be the best solution. Instead, we've found a replacement seat for the moldy Fiesta at a reasonable price. By investing in a new seat, we can sell the car in better condition and increase its appeal to potential buyers.
Updates on Other Projects (#11 Updates on Other Projects)
In addition to the main projects mentioned, we have several other cars we're working on. The Alpha still needs cleaning, but as it hasn't been driven recently, the cleaning process can wait. The Chevy is still awaiting attention, while the MGB's bonnet is back in place, and we're working on resolving an issue with the ignition barrel. The Arcadian is receiving regular lacquer additions, and the wide body MGB is temporarily on hold. As for the 2CV, we're still deciding whether to keep it or sell it. Rest assured, we'll keep you updated on their progress!
