Introduction

Welcome to the Pearls and Polish podcast! I'm Rachel, your host, bringing you the latest news from just outside Sacramento, California. In this episode, I'll be sharing updates on my knitting projects, books I'm reading, shows I'm watching, and more. Whether you're a new viewer or a returning one, I'm thrilled to have you here. Let's dive into episode 40!

The Forgotten Objects Projects

As part of my goal for 2024, I have been working on finishing the forgotten projects. These are projects that I started in the last four to five years but never completed. It has been a great way to keep my works in progress to a minimum and knit without the pressure of deadlines or commitments. One of the projects I finished was a hat and mittens set by Pearl Soho. Originally intended as a tank top, I repurposed the yarn into this cozy set. Despite the hat being a bit loose, I was pleased with how the gloves turned out.

End Grain Shaw

Another completed project is my end grain shaw. This pattern was a joy to work on, and the finished shawl turned out beautifully. Its larger size provides ample warmth, making it perfect for cold days. Whether wrapped around the neck or tucked around the ears, this shawl is both stylish and cozy. I highly recommend the pattern for anyone looking to knit a fabulous shawl.

Knit-along and Acquisitions

I recently joined the "I Love Books and Sock Knitting" knit-along hosted by Denise of Earth Tones Girl. The premise of the knitalong is simple: for two months, participants are encouraged to read books and knit socks. This aligns perfectly with my interests, as I am an avid reader and sock knitter. To decide which socks to knit, I randomly selected colorways from my stash, ensuring a diverse range of projects. This knitalong promises to be a delightful experience, filled with books and cozy sock knitting.

Speaking of acquisitions, I received three new additions to my stash just before my vacation. Two of them were pre-ordered colorways, one inspired by the Zodiac and the other by Harry Potter. The third addition was a monthly subscription from the Woolberry Collective. These yarns have been carefully cataloged and will be used in future projects.

Reading and Watching

Currently, I am engrossed in "Siege and Storm" by Leigh Bardugo, the second book in the Grisha trilogy. Bardugo's writing captivates me, making it difficult to put the book down. As for television, I am rewatching "The Magicians," a show I am familiar with, providing comfort and entertainment during this season.

Life Updates

Before my vacation, I tested for my yellow belt in Taekwondo and passed the test. I have been thoroughly enjoying my Taekwondo journey, especially the opportunity to learn self-defense techniques. However, sickness has made its way into our household with allergies and a case of pink eye. We are taking precautions and following the necessary treatments to ensure a swift recovery.

February Stats

In February, I had a productive reading month, completing five books. Additionally, I received five new skeins of yarn while destashing twelve skeins. This brings my total stash count to 87 skeins. I am proud of my progress in utilizing my existing stash and being mindful of future yarn purchases.

Conclusion

Thank you for joining me in episode 40 of the Pearls and Polish podcast. I can't wait to share more updates on my knitting projects, books, and shows in future episodes. Stay tuned for my planner setup video coming soon. Until next time, happy knitting and happy reading!
