In our lives, we often find ourselves exposed to new ideas and concepts that challenge our existing beliefs and perceptions. I vividly remember my own "rug pulling" moment at the age of 11 when I visited the Garden of the Gods, a sacred site for the indigenous people of Colorado Springs. Growing up in a predominantly white suburb, I had limited exposure to diversity and was under the impression that indigenous people were a thing of the past. However, encountering a Navajo woman at the visitor center shattered this belief and planted a seed of curiosity within me. This seed eventually led me to become an anthropologist and a writer.
